IT'S NOT I!

The rules of grammar I have found
Place me upon uncertain ground
The thing called Predicate Subjective
Flatly issues a Directive
So if I say "Hello, it’s me"
I’m guilty of near blasphemy
Those rules on which I must rely
Demand I state instead "It’s I"

And furthermore, remember when
Some friends arrive, don’t say "It’s them!"
They tell us that the proper way
To speak is to announce "It’s They!"

If this all seems a little strange
And if I seem a bit deranged
I did not make the rules this way
It was those other folk- ‘Twas They

I think that I’ll create a school
Defining a new Golden Rule
Which lets me state quite comfortably
Not I- not They- but just "It’s me"
